Leveraging the Power of Community at SXSW Interactive 2016

Soon we’ll be reunited with some of the brightest minds in technology at SXSW Interactive. This year, we’ll discuss the power that individuals and communities all over the world have gained through technology.

Join us on Friday, March 11th for “Shifting the Power for Lasting Change” in partnership with the Huffington Post. Mike Jones, our Deputy Managing Director for North America is teaming up with Huffington Post News Director, Katie Nelson to talk about the digital movements influencing the balance of power.

Technology has transformed collective action -- communities are no longer a group of people sequestered by location, place or time. Comments, likes, and shares are the fuel of modern movements, and today’s corporations and governments must adapt their incentives and behavior, or risk losing the support of the communities that sustain them.

Huffington Post and Change.org are prime examples of technology at its best: a tool to facilitate community building, action-taking, and real-world change. With engaging media coverage, user activation, and successful advocacy campaigns as examples, Mike and Katie will explain the ingredients for building strong digital communities with the power to create lasting change.

If you want to get a head start on this discussion, consider these three questions that will frame our session:

  • How does technology transform incentives and behavior?
  • How does technology help us transcend boundaries?
  • What should the media and other institutions be doing about it?

Anything is possible with a strong and determined community, and we hope you can join ours at 3:30pm on March 11th at the JW Marriot!

Make sure you put our panel on your schedule.
